Pat O’Bryan’s Portable Empire on Facebook Last weekend I hosted UnSeminar7. It was an amazing experience. From Thursday through Monday night we hung out. The attendees were amazing- there was so much sharing, love, and an amazing vibe. The best part is- I’ve learned from talking to the attendees this week that the relationships are continuing and growing. Those who were there will always be connected. And each one goes back to their part of the globe and tells others about how it can be.

The level 2 experience of your site should be enhanced from the level one “tire kicker” level in terms of content quality, quantity and how quickly it is updated. Yesterday afternoon when I first checked out Bing’s Twitter Search feature, I was actually quite impressed. Staying true to its “decision engine” layout, the tweet results are broken up into categories. Check it out: I really like how it separates the results into “Most Recent Tweets” and “Top Shared Links”. The focus is definitely on user experience here, helping people find what they need with a logical and appealing interface.

I had the pleasure of heading over to Area 15 in NoDa on Oct 17th for the second edition of BarCamp Charlotte . BarCamp is a user-generated conference, which encourages attendees to pitch for their chance to present a session on a topic of their choice. “The name ‘BarCamp’ is a playful allusion to the event’s origins, with reference to the hacker slang term, foobar: BarCamp arose as a spin-off of Foo Camp, an annual invitation-only participant driven conference hosted by open source publishing luminary Tim O’Reilly.” Wikipedia: BarCamp The event was organised by volunteers and funded by sponsors from various industries.

There is a popular sales and marketing axiom that states, people don’t buy goods, services, products or expertise. People buy solutions to their problems. I believe this statement is true but I have had to clarify it for many of my consulting clients. In spite of the billions of dollars of merchandise for sale in todays marketplace, customers are really looking for only three things; 1) Good Feelings 2) Solutions to Problems 3) Genuine Relationships Do you know what your clients are REALLY buying? Top business consultants generate billions of dollars in fees every year to make companies understand this simple truth.

It’s unfortunate that the Internet, which seems to be the source of endless opportunity, is also the source of an even double (or triple) number of scams. Why? It’s much easier to formulate a scam that is “supposed” to give you some amazing benefit, but ends up stripping people of money and in fact giving the victim the complete opposite—nothing, than it is to make a good product that can really benefit a multitude of people. Today I’m going to look at a certain type of scam.
